Christine Herman is the incoming managing editor for Side Effects Public Media, a health reporting collaboration involving reporters at NPR stations across the Midwest. In her recent role as health reporter at WILL / Illinois Public Media, she reported extensively on mental health, reaching national audiences through WILSiL's partnership with NPR and Kaiser Health News. Christine is a 2018-19 Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism fellow and a newly elected board member of the Association of Health Care Journalists. She got her start in public radio as a founding producer for WILL’s statewide talk show, The 21st. Christine earned her Ph.D. in chemistry and master's in journalism from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She lives in Champaign, Illinois, with her family.
